Basketball Recap: Gilbert Comes Up Short

Gilbert fought the good fight in their overtime contest against South Aiken on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the South Aiken Thoroughbreds by a score of 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Indians have suffered since November 26, 2024.

Despite the loss, Gilbert saw an underclassman step up: freshman Blythe Price dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of Gilbert's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Alexis Gartmon, who earned 16 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Gilbert was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Aiken only posted three assists.

Jasmine Epps was nothing short of spectacular for South Aiken: she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Epps a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myracle Culbreath, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

Gilbert dropped their record down to 2-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for South Aiken, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Gilbert wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 42-39 victory against Midland Valley on the 9th. As for South Aiken, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-20 loss against North Augusta on the 9th.
