Baseball Recap: Manawa Comes Up Short

Manawa extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 31-2 back in April.

As for Wittenberg-Birnamwood, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Wittenberg-Birnamwood's part, Hudson Miller and Hayden Miller made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Miller pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Hayden pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hudson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Miller went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Hayden went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Hudson has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Milo Salvesen and Zandyr Barke did most of the damage at the plate: Salvesen went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Barke went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Salvesen has posted since back in April. Colby Wincentsen was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Manawa will square off against Rosholt at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wittenberg-Birnamwood, they will take on Auburndale at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
