Baseball Game Preview: Westwood Warriors vs. Red Mountain Mountain Lions

Westwood is 1-9 against Red Mountain since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Mountain Lions at 3:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Red Mountain will be up against a hot Westwood squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Warriors never let Dobson get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Red Mountain faced O'Connor in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Mountain Lions put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 8-0 victory. The game was the first time the Mountain Lions have beaten the Eagles on their field since April 15, 2019.

Not much got past Maddox Loria, who gave up just six hits and racked up six Ks to keep O'Connor off the board. Loria has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Derek Wilson was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Kale Thorson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Red Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as O'Connor only posted a batting average of .231.

Red Mountain's win bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Westwood, their victory bumped their record up to 16-9.

Westwood suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Red Mountain when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
