Softball Recap: San Ramon Valley's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

San Ramon Valley dropped their record down to 13-7-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the California Grizzlies by a score of 4-3. The Wolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Grizzlies earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Ava Lyons made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Mads Sekera, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for California, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On California's side, Gabriella Nudo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, California saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey King, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI King has posted since back in March.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Ramon Valley will head out to square off against Amador Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dons have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for California, they are taking a road trip to challenge James Logan at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Grizzlies 3, the Colts 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
