Marshfield has gone 8-2 against Wausau West recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Tigers will host the Warriors at 7:00 p.m.
Marshfield's tournament run continued when they took on Kewaskum on Saturday. The Tigers fell just short of the Indians by a score of 2-1.
Despite their loss, Marshfield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Angela Barnhardt, who had 12 digs and four aces, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Paige Schlagenhaft, who had 15 assists and nine digs.
Meanwhile, Wausau West and Wausau East faced off in a cross-town battle on Thursday. The Warriors came out on top against the Lumberjacks by a score of 3-1. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Lumberjacks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Wausau West was dominant in they sets they won, taking each by at least 25 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-0, 25-0, 0-25, 25-0.
Marshfield better focus on containing Ava Ngo and Paige Ives as the pair were huge in Wausau West's win. Ngo had 11 digs, while Ives had ten digs and two aces. Kaitlyn Butler also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Marshfield's defeat dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Wausau West, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Marshfield has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Wausau West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Marshfield's way against Wausau West when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Marshfield made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
