Volleyball Recap: Fairmont Comes Up Short on the Road Against Pender

Fairmont had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They came up short against the Pender Patriots, falling 3-0. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

The match came down to the wire multiple times:two sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 32-30, 29-27.

Fairmont lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Layla Hunt, who had three digs and three aces. Another player making a difference was Jerrian Taylor, who had 14 digs and two assists.

Jensen Bordeaux had an outrageously good game for Pender as she had 38 digs, six kills, and three aces. Those 38 digs gave Bordeaux a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eden Gurganous, who had 27 digs and two aces.

Looking ahead, Fairmont will take on Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pender, they will challenge Wallace-Rose Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
