Xavier College Prep hadn't done well against Mesquite recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Gators managed a 43-37 win over the Wildcats. This was a revenge game for the Gators: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in November, they had to take a 62-38 loss.

Despite the loss, Mesquite still got an impressive performance from Skylie Gonzales, who shot 58% from the field on her way to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Lizzie Norton, who posted eight points.

Xavier College Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points over those games. As for Mesquite, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Xavier College Prep and Mesquite will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Gators see the court they'll take on Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026. As for Mesquite, their break will end when they face Saguaro at 5:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
