According to data MaxPreps has compiled since 2006, the city of Las Cruces has been New Mexico's major football hotbed since 2006. Teams from the southern part of the state seem to have a leg up on other spots when looking at all the results of our special points system.

Here is how the points break down:

1. 20 for a state title

2. 10 for state championship game appearance

3. Other points are based on where a team finished in the final state rankings (MaxPreps New Mexico Computer rankings presented by the Army National Guard). For example, if a team finished No. 1 overall, it would receive 25 points. If it finished 25th overall, the team would get one point. No points were awarded if the team did not finish in the Top 25.
