Football Game Preview: San Angelo Central Bobcats vs. Frenship Tigers

Two dominant signal callers in Micah Smith and Chase Campbell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The San Angelo Central Bobcats will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Frenship Tigers at 7:00 p.m. San Angelo Central has given up an average of 33 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times San Angelo Central and Odessa had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Bronchos 35-32. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bobcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Bronchos are ranked 642nd).

San Angelo Central found their leader in sophomore Zeyvion Johnson, who rushed for 141 yards and one TD on only 15 carries. Johnson has become a key player for the Bobcats: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Elijah Allen, who rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown.

San Angelo Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 269 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Frenship duked it out with Permian on Friday. The Tigers took a 38-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.

Loss or not, Frenship got some senior leadership from Hayden Wilson and Quaid Ferris. Wilson picked up 180 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while Ferris threw for 400 yards and three TDs. Those 180 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Wilson. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Gilliam, who picked up 91 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Frenship now has a losing record of 4-5. As for San Angelo Central, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
