The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies will challenge the Capital Golden Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Rocky Mountain lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Borah, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. Rocky Mountain was the clear victors by a 20-6 margin over Borah on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Grizzlies as it put an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
The team relied heavily on Megan McCormick, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Brooke Singelyn was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Rocky Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Capital put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ridgevue a 27-0 shutout.
Syd Garber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Garber was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Lizzy Turpen was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Turpen is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was McKenna Chavez, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Capital's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Rocky Mountain, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Rocky Mountain skirted past Capital 8-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rocky Mountain since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
