Basketball Game Preview: Howard Lions vs. Centennial Eagles

Howard is 0-10 against Centennial since February of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Howard Lions will take on the Centennial Eagles. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Howard sitting on four straight wins and Centennial on five.

Howard is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Westminster 82-45 on Saturday.

It was another big night for Griffin Garner, who went 9 of 18 en route to 27 points and eight rebounds. His afternoon made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Reeb, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 16 points and six boards.

Howard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Centennial was able to grind out a solid victory over Marriotts Ridge on Saturday, taking the game 55-48.

Howard's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.4 points per game. As for Centennial, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Howard might still be hurting after the 72-51 defeat they got from Centennial in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Howard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
