Powell County won the last time they faced Buckhorn and things went their way  on Thursday too. The Pirates put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp  15-8 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven  runs or more this season.
 Kylie Shick made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she  pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off   one  hit. Shick was also big at the plate,  getting on base  in three of her four plate appearances with two  runs and one  double.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Marti Kirk, who  went 3-for-4 with two  runs, one  triple,  and one  stolen base. That  triple was  her first of the season.  Zaley Strange was another key player,  going 2-for-3 with three  RBI and two  runs.
 Powell County  always had someone on base and  finished the game having  posted an OBP of .585. They are 4-1 when  they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Powell County pushed their record up to 5-6 with the  victory, which was their third straight  at home. The  home  wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Buckhorn,  they are  on  a  three-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 4-12.
 Coming up, Powell County will be playing at home against Wolfe County  at 6:00  p.m.  on Monday. As for Buckhorn, they will head out to  face off against Owsley County  at 6:00  p.m.  on Monday.
