Lauren Satterly made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Paige Crain was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashley Jones, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Assumption hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Scott County put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Woodford County a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Cardinals have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Assumption, Scott County also got a great game from a two-way player: Ada Little. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Little was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Strong, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Aubrey Wigginton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Assumption's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Scott County, their win bumped their record up to 16-1.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Assumption hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Scott County struggles in that department as they've averaged .416. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Assumption suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Scott County in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
