Solon is 0-3 against Brecksville-Broadview Heights since April of 2024 but things could change on Thursday. The Comets will take on the Bees at 5:00 p.m.
Solon is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Twinsburg. That's two games in a row now that the Comets have lost by just one run.
Grace Gerhard made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Mary Chesla was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Brecksville-Broadview Heights had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They blew past the Explorers 14-2. 14 seems to be a good number for the Bees as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Rowan Weber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianna Roth, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Tess Cozza also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Solon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Solon might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Brecksville-Broadview Heights when the teams last played on April 4th. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
