Airport is a perfect 8-0 against Irmo since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. Airport will square off against Irmo at 4:30 p.m. Airport is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
On Thursday, Airport sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over North Augusta. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Cash Epps spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Airport's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brice Gillette, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Isahia Clemons also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Irmo didn't have quite enough to beat River Bluff on Thursday and fell 7-5. The Yellow Jackets haven't had much luck with the Gators recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Jayllen Fray made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Elliott Graham was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Airport pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Irmo, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Irmo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Airport hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Irmo, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Airport's hitters?
Airport took their win against Irmo in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Airport since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
