Softball Preview: Griffin Bears vs. Central Lions
The Griffin Bears have the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome the Central Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Griffin will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Last Thursday, Griffin got the win against Jonesboro by a conclusive 19-2. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Bella Daniel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Daniel was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Griffin got a massive performance out of Su?Nai Ellis, who went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career- in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Bufford, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Griffin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jonesboro only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Central was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They fell just short of Harris County by a score of 3-1. The match marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Griffin now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Central, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-5 record.
