Baseball Recap: Gateway Gators vs. Plum Mustangs
Gateway extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-12 in the process. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Plum Mustangs. The Gators were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for Plum, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.
For Plum's part, Connor Wilson was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Wilson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Lafferty, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Coming up, Gateway will challenge Connellsville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Gators' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Plum, they will take on Greater Latrobe at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
