Baseball Recap: Calhoun City's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

With a playoff win on the line, Calhoun City rose to the challenge on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the O'Bannon Greenwaves. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Jayden Brand was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Calhoun City is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-17 otherwise. Brand was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jay Moore, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Zawon Edwards was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Calhoun City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Calhoun City's victory bumped their record up to 10-18. As for O'Bannon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-6.
