Baseball Recap: Nestucca Takes a Loss

Nestucca extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Portland Christian Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Tuesday.

Nestucca saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brysen McDonald, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Owen Love was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

As for Portland Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On Portland Christian's side, Jack Mazurowski made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Mazurowski also tossed no walks, which is notable because Portland Christian is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise. Mazurowski was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Portland Christian beat Nestucca by a score of 8-6 later that day.
