Basketball Recap: Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies vs. Dakota Valley Panthers

Elk Point-Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 66-39 loss at the hands of the Dakota Valley Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Panthers are ranked 17th).

Dakota Valley had a senior duo take command as Luke Bruns went 9 of 14 on his way to 21 points and Logan Collette almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Bruns' evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Tyler Cornelson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Elk Point-Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Dakota Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4.

Coming up, Elk Point-Jefferson will square off against Beresford at 8:00 p.m. on February 14th. As for Dakota Valley, they will head out to face off against Vermillion at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Vermillion knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Dakota Valley likes a good challenge.
