Basketball Game Preview: Center Cougars vs. Colfax Falcons

Center hasn't had much luck against Colfax recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Center Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Colfax Falcons at 6:00 p.m. That match will pit two of the most dominant centers against one another: Reniaya Applin and Juliette James.

Center is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Oakmont, falling 59-37.

Center's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Applin, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds, and Charlotte Wallace, who posted eight points. The dominant performance gave Wallace a new career-high in points.

Meanwhile, Colfax entered their tilt with Marysville on Wednesday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They really took it to the Indians for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-22 win. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Indians are ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Colfax's victory was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Center, their loss dropped their record down to 5-21.

Center took a serious blow against Colfax in their previous meeting back in January, falling 78-26. Can Center avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
