The Lancaster Legends will head out on the road to face off against the Williamsville South Billies at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lancaster will be strutting in after a victory while Williamsville South will be coming in after a loss.
Lancaster came out on top against Clarence on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Legends took their match against the Red Devils 8-5. The game was the first time the Legends have beaten the Red Devils on their field since May 11, 2022.
Alyssa Brunner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brennah DeWald, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Ava Konieczny was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lancaster kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Williamsville South didn't have quite enough to beat Williamsville East on Thursday and fell 5-3. The contest marked the Billies' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Alyssa Siegmann made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kate Budzinski, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Lancaster's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-2. As for Williamsville South, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lancaster has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Williamsville South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
