Basketball Game Preview: Vermilion Sailors vs. St. Paul Flyers

The Vermilion Sailors will face off against the St. Paul Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Vermilion turned things around against Clearview on Monday. They took down the Clippers 60-44. The Sailors pushed the score to 50-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Clippers cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Paul). They blew past St. Mary Central Catholic 58-38 on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Flyers as it put an end to their 11-game losing streak dating back to last season.

St. Paul's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Vermilion, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.

Everything came up roses for Vermilion against St. Paul in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 44-12 win. In that contest, Vermilion amassed a halftime lead of 28-5, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
