Basketball Recap: Uvalde Takes a Loss

Uvalde was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 61-45 bruising from the Pearsall Mavericks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-43 two weeks ago.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pearsall to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xavier Rendon, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 boards. Another player making a difference was Marcus Woodard, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.

Uvalde's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Pearsall, they pushed their record up to 16-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Uvalde will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Floresville at 12:30 p.m. on December 31st. Floresville has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 183 points over their last three matches. Pearsall also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Carrizo Springs at 12:30 p.m. on December 31st. Pearsall is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.8 points per game this season.
