Soccer Game Preview: St. Francis vs. Mount Vernon

St. Francis hasn't had much luck against Mount Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Knights will square off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, St. Francis put up the most goals they have all season on Monday. They blew past Athens Christian 7-1. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 6-1.

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon hadn't done well against Fellowship Christian recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 6-2 margin over the Paladins. Mount Vernon might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by four goals or more this season.

The win made it two in a row for Mount Vernon and bumps their season record up to 4-4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those two matches. As for St. Francis, the win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-8.

St. Francis suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Mount Vernon in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
