Cherryvale takes loss despite strong efforts from Leuie Umbarger and Landon Fox

Recap: Cherryvale Chargers vs. Humboldt Cubs

The Cherryvale Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Humboldt at home and fell 74-36. Cherryvale was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-13.

Landon Fox and Leuie Umbarger certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Fox dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Umbarger scored seven points along with five assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fox has scored all season.

Humboldt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Hull led the charge by scoring 24 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Colden Cook, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Cherryvale bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Humboldt, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Cherryvale will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Neodesha at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Humboldt will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Erie at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th.
