Recap: Cherry Creek Bruins vs. Overland Trailblazers
The Cherry Creek Bruins came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 53-37 victory over Overland. Given Cherry Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Trailblazers are ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Cherry Creek to victory were Braelynn Barnett and Julia Leach. Barnett scored 12 points, while Leach scored ten points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Molly Dorighi, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Overland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Destiny Moore, who scored nine points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Seilani Relford, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Cherry Creek pushed their record up to 13-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Overland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-5.
Cherry Creek will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Raptors at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Eaglecrest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday. As for Overland, they will head out on the road to challenge the Wolves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
