Baseball Recap: Moapa Valley Takes a Loss

Moapa Valley lost against Virgin Valley last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Pirates came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 10-4. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Tyson Pettingill was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last five contests. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Moapa Valley: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

Pettingill wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Schouten, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Lincoln Stankosky also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Moapa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Virgin Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moapa Valley will face off against Mater Academy East Las Vegas at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Virgin Valley, they will challenge Foothill at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
