Preview: Byron Nelson Bobcat vs. Southlake Carroll Dragons

Byron Nelson is 1-7 against Southlake Carroll since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Byron Nelson Bobcat will be staying on the road to face off against the Southlake Carroll Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Byron Nelson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 643 points over their last 13 contests.

Byron Nelson had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against Coppell by a score of 52-45 on Saturday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

Tom Von grote went supernova for Byron Nelson, throwing for 279 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Byron Nelson also got help from Landon Farco who showed off his sure hands for 162 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Southlake Carroll put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-14 win over Highland Park on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.

Southlake Carroll found their leader in underclassman Davis Penn, who rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Riley Wormley also helped out as he racked up 125 rushing yards.

Southlake Carroll's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Dustan Mark was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.

Byron Nelson's win bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Southlake Carroll, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Byron Nelson strolled past Southlake Carroll in their previous matchup back in October by a score of 34-17. The rematch might be a little tougher for Byron Nelson since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
