Baseball Recap: Waterloo Comes Up Short

If Waterloo was riding high fresh off their 19-3 takedown of Deerfield last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates fell just short of the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vanguards apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Gavin Schroud was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aiden Arians, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Waterloo's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Wisconsin Heights, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Vanguards beat Waterloo by a score of 11-7 on Thursday.
