Central Magnet are taking a road trip to square off against the Coffee County Central Red Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Central Magnet was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Shelbyville Central. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Central Magnet has posted against Shelbyville Central since April 10, 2015.
John Roth made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Roth was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Roth wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mitchell Coons, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Coffee County Central waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Mustangs.
Coffee County Central also got a great performance from Leiton Yancer as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Yancer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kasen Morrison, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Colter Neel, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Central Magnet's record is now 2-3. As for Coffee County Central, their record is now 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Central Magnet has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coffee County Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Central Magnet suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Coffee County Central when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can Central Magnet avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
