Softball Recap: Van Comes Up Short

Van extended their losing streak to 13 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-25 in the process. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Joseph Central Irish. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Shanna Cabell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Brailynn McCarty was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for St. Joseph Central, they pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.

On St. Joseph Central's side, Kate Oxley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. Oxley has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alaina Day and Brooklyn Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Day went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Anderson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Anderson has posted since back in March.

Van does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Joseph Central, they have already played their next game, a 6-4 victory against Tolsia on the 8th.
