If La Veta wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Springfield, they should've done a better job of containing Colby Batterton. The Springfield Longhorns breezed by the La Veta Redhawks to the tune of 65-30 on Friday thanks in part to Batterton, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most boards he has posted since back in December of 2023.
Coltin Woodhouse was another key player, putting up seven points along with five rebounds and four steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Several Redhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tristan Musgrave, who posted six points in addition to 13 boards and three blocks. With that strong performance, Musgrave is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Vargas, who put up eight points.
The win made it two in a row for Springfield and bumps their season record up to 3-9. As for La Veta, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Springfield will venture away from home to square off against Manzanola at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Springfield is facing Manzanola at the right time seeing as Manzanola is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for La Veta, they will face off against Hoehne at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
