The Heritage Huskies will challenge the Apex Friendship Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Heritage managed to slip by Holly Springs the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Heritage lost 7-1 to Holly Springs on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Heritage saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Janiah Vargas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Zoelle Davidson also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Apex Friendship entered their tilt with Middle Creek on Thursday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Mustangs 9-1.
Maura Schwanke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Sydney Joyce was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Ava Primak was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.
Apex Friendship was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Middle Creek only posted a batting average of .250.
Apex Friendship's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Heritage has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Apex Friendship struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Heritage suffered a grim 12-6 defeat to Apex Friendship in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Heritage have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
