Baseball Game Preview: New Haven Shamrocks vs. Silex Owls

New Haven hasn't had much luck against Silex recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Shamrocks will host the Owls at 5:00 p.m.

New Haven fell victim to St. Clair and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 9-0 to the Bulldogs. The shutout was out of character for the Shamrocks seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Meanwhile, Silex had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with a 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Owls, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Chase Mullen made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kameron Garcia was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Joe Dameron was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Silex's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for New Haven, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
