Basketball Recap: Maxwell's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Maxwell had to endure a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They ended the year with a bang, routing the Brady Eagles 61-41 on Saturday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their 29-point performance the contest before.

Leading Maxwell to victory were Jesse Reyes and Cole Huffman. Reyes went 8 for 14 on his way to 22 points in addition to seven boards and five steals, while Huffman went 8 of 17 on his way to 21 points. That's the most points Huffman has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Joaquin Vega, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Maxwell was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cinch Sanger, who had nine points and four steals. Sanger continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Telitz, who put up ten points.

Maxwell's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Brady, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maxwell will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Arapahoe at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Brady, they will welcome Cody-Kilgore on Friday.
