Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Belleville East's 11th in Last 12 Outings

Belleville East was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against East St. Louis on Thursday. The Lancers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Flyers a 15-0 shutout. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Owen Hodapp looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Caden Cagas was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Kale Briscoe was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Belleville East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Belleville East is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for East St. Louis, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belleville East will head out to square off against Columbia at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. As for East St. Louis, they will venture away from home to face off against Manual at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
