Softball Recap: River Valley Victorious

River Valley posted their closest win since May 7, 2025 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Portage Mustangs. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won four in a row.

Sara Bollinger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Izabella Speal was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Madison Twinchek was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

River Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Portage, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Looking ahead, River Valley will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against West Shamokin at 4:30 p.m. As for Portage, they will challenge Penn Cambria at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
