Basketball Recap: Memorial Takes a Loss

Memorial and Monterey squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Memorial had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Monterey Plainsmen 83-26. The Mavericks' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monterey to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaliyah Chavez, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds. The game was Chavez's 36th in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnson Ari, who went 11 for 17 en route to 25 points along with eight boards and three blocks.

Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Monterey, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 32-5 record this season.

Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Monterey, they will square off against Burges at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Monterey knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 contests -- so hopefully Burges likes a good challenge.
