Softball Recap: National Trail Triumphs

National Trail won the last time they faced Carroll and things went their way on Saturday too. The Blazers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Patriots, sneaking past 9-8. That's two games straight that the Blazers have won by just one run.

Summer Martin and Morgan House made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Martin tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, House struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Martin has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Martin went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while House scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Carley Hamm was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Reynolds, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for National Trail and bumps their season record up to 4-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Carroll, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, National Trail will head out to take on Preble Shawnee at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blazers are facing the Arrows at the right time seeing as the Arrows are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Carroll, they will be playing at home against Belmont at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
