Baseball Recap: Wood River Has No Trouble Against Filer

After only two runs in their last matchup, Wood River made sure to put some runs up on the board against Filer on Friday. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 11-1 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Wolverines' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Ozzie Scherer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Wood River: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Luke Hebert was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Alex Golub was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Wood River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Wood River now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Filer, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-5.

Looking ahead, Wood River is taking a road trip to challenge Kimberly at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Filer, they will challenge Snake River at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
