League recap: Legend surprises Doherty

Legend scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Doherty, 47-35. At the time, the Spartans were ranked 11th in the state, while the Titans were 32nd.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Legend, who took down 11th ranked Doherty, 47-35. Peyton Remy threw for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 18 yards in the win.

David Joyce's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Evan Powell threw for 347 and 3 touchdowns and Zach Zimmer had 123 yards receiving. On the ground Zach Young contributed 138 yards. Brandon Supernaw helped Doherty's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 65 yards.

He was 19-45 with 2 interceptions.

Sawyer Kitching was a key player and the best on defense this week as Castle View topped Palmer. The 6-foot-1 defensive back.

Zimmer was the best receiver in 5A Pioneer this week as the Spartans lost to Robert Doyle's team. Zimmer tallied 4 receptions for 123 yards. Supernaw helped Doherty's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 65 yards.

On the heels of Powell and Young, Doherty has had great success on offense. Powell is tops in the league in passing with 1,135 yards, while Young has rushed for 1,072 yards this season. Rock Canyon's Jack Lamb leads the league in receiving yards with 377 on 15 catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Fountain-Fort Carson takes on the Titans. The Trojans are currently in fifth, while Legend is in first.

Heritage was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth in the league. The Eagles vanquished the Jaguars 17-14 earlier in the week.
