Baseball Game Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. Beckville Bearcats

Overton is 0-9 against Beckville since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. Overton will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Overton barely beat Union Grove the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 9-1 win on Friday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Landon Hill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Overton let Braxton Harper and Mason Rowe run wild. Harper scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Rowe scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Harper a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Zalman, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of 14 wins, Beckville's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They came up short against Harleton, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bearcats, who until this contest were averaging 3.39 runs allowed.

Overton pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Beckville, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 15-3.
