The Webb School hasn't had much luck against Columbia Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Webb School will welcome Columbia Academy at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with The Webb School sitting on four straight wins and Columbia Academy on 11.
On Friday, The Webb School was able to grind out a solid victory over Lake Zurich, taking the game 6-3.
Mack Hopper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Gunnar Boles was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Drew Baker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
The Webb School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Columbia Academy made easy work of Zion Christian Academy on Saturday and carried off a 15-1 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Maine Metz looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gunner Skelton, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jase Kincaid, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Columbia Academy's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for The Webb School, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
