Softball Recap: Madison Southern Triumphs

Madison Southern hadn't done well against Wolfe County recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Eagles came out on top against the Wolves by a score of 8-5. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 8-7 win the Wolves walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Kayley Goss made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Estep, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lexie Keener was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Madison Southern lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wolfe County didn't launched any home runs.

Madison Southern now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Wolfe County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Coming up, Madison Southern will look to defend their home field on Monday against Great Crossing at 6:00 p.m. As for Wolfe County, they will head out to challenge Powell County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season.
