Baseball Recap: Owen County Triumphs

Owen County won the last time they faced Augusta and things went their way on Saturday too. The Rebels came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 11-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rebels.

Wade Cook made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Michael Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Briton Stafford was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Owen County's record is now 7-5. As for Augusta, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 9-5.

Coming up, Owen County will venture away from home to face off against Carroll County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.91 runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Augusta, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Robertson County at 5:30 p.m.
