Baseball Recap: Schenck Takes a Loss

Schenck and Madawaska squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Schenck had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Owls by a score of 7-6. The Wolverines' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Cameron Atkinson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one triple and one stolen base. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 11 times he's played.

In other batting news, Owen Wyman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Schenck's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-2 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

Schenck's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Madawaska, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Schenck does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Madawaska, they will face off against Katahdin on Thursday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Owls' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
