Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Gaither Cowboys walked away with it. They walked away with a 31-24 win over the Tigers on Friday. The victory was nothing new for Gaither as they're now sitting on six straight.
Gaither's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayce Nixon, who rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 187 yards and a touchdown. Elija Mason also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Jesuit's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Griffin, who threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Thurman, who rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Gaither is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Jesuit, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3.
Gaither will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against St. Thomas Aquinas at 7:30 p.m. on December 1st. St. Thomas Aquinas is on a ten-game streak of home wins, Gaither a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Jesuit does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
