Baseball Game Preview: Avonworth Antelopes vs. South Allegheny Gladiators

The Avonworth Antelopes will head out to square off against the South Allegheny Gladiators at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Avonworth will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Avonworth proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Hopewell get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Antelopes have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Not much got past Patrick Bykowski, who gave up just a hit to keep Hopewell off the board. Bykowski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Avonworth's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Dolan, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Avonworth hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Allegheny). They walked away with a 6-2 win over Shady Side Academy on Tuesday.

Avonworth pushed their record up to 6-1-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for South Allegheny, their record now sits at 2-3.
