Recap: Rio Hondo Bobcats vs. Lyford Bulldogs

The Rio Hondo Bobcats were the 20-14 winner over the Lyford Bulldogs when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Rio Hondo fell 27-14 to Lyford on Friday. Rio Hondo has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Although Rio Hondo took the loss, they still got scores from Ruben Atkinson and Keyan Lopez.

Lyford got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Olivas out in front who threw for 316 yards and a touchdown while picking up 12.2 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Adrian Chavez was another key contributor, gaining 201 total yards and a touchdown.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Rio Hondo to a paltry 208 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lyford's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Alejandro Tijerina and his two sacks.

Rio Hondo's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Lyford, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio Hondo will take on Edna at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edna is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Lyford, they will be playing at home against Industrial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Industrial's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five games.
